Post subject: Powerbook 17" G4 scrreen issues
PostPosted: Tue Jul 01, 2008 11:43 am
when I try to use my old powerbook the screen colors slowly bleed down and it greys out. If I hold the edges and bend the top frame a little and hold it I sometimes get it to clear up but when I let go it slowly does this color bleed scroll and goes dark again.

What would I need to fix this issue how hard is the self repair and how much would it cost from parts ordered from this website

I would love to get a new mac but I can't even afford a mac mini right now.

help please

Likely, that problem is going to be caused by a bad LCD. It is possible it is the LVDS display cable, but generally when a panel gets washed out by applying pressure it is going to be the LCD.

With how you described your problem, I can say it is definitely with the LCD. There could be some loose inside the LCD. I had the same problem before and since the LCD was old already, I had the guts to open it up and check for some loose connections. The solder from the board of the LCD and cable was loose so I just soldered it and was able to make it work again. :)

I changed it with brand new LCD and still sometimes this problem occurs.
