Post subject: Died pismo, black screen, pram, openfirmware .... answer
PostPosted: Wed Oct 13, 2004 6:39 am
After using my pismo on the net for several months on every kind of internet sites, it appear a big problem... Freezing, when connected or not on any application after a variable time of minutes... and after that the pismo acted as died... blackscreen, the HD start, but nothing else, sometimes the green light of sleep flashing...

The pismo come back after many tries of power on... : power on normaly, if nothing, verify the pismo is on by locking the caps, green light is now on normaly... shut down by long time pressing caps lock... go back to the power on... after 1, 2 , 5 ,10 tries or more if your not lucky, the pismo will come back...

notice the pismo comme back sooner when the ram was removed, and have a try also with the CPU card removed. You can power on with the ram removed, the pismo won't boot but you will hear the long tone of the booting problem...(reseting someting by doing this ?? surely...)

Try also when you succeed power on to go into the openfirmware: command+option+O+F (as OpenFirmware..). you will get a prompt... not dangerous if you don't make change on password: so now reset the nvram, set the defaults parameter of the firmware and reset the all pismo: so type on the prompt: "reset-nvram", then "set-defaults", then "reset-all". The pismo will reboot you can complete this by reset the pram parameter by command+option+P+R on the blackscreen boot. (to have the same system folder as it was, press Option while booting and choose it)

BUT the most "workable" thing to make the pismo back, is simply changing the HardDrive....Now I got No more Booting Problem until the next time..!!??? but It works as new for several days, instead of freezing after a short time...

It seems the Hard drive partition of booting has a problem not detected by any drive tools or antivirus software...

try it and please give feed back here.

Excuse for the bad english, I am french...

(resetting the nvram as described can be done for battery problem (short time live).. fully charged the battery, fully empty it (you reset the battery), reset the nvram, and fully charged again the battery. You will normaly see life improvment of battery)

jerjer2004@yahoo.fr (If you have anything on the openfirmware, and especialy a command to make the virtualDisk Bootable again....thanks)
