 Post subject: HELP!! Pismo freezes

I have a pismo 400 MHZ. It will start up run for different amounts of time then it completely freezes. Sometimes it will freeze when restarting or run for an even shorter time then freeze. Is it the processor or the logic board? Can you tell from this description? Also it seems runs fine with all extensions turned off. When I turn them back on it freezes. I have gone thru systematically turning them on and off to see if a particular extension is the problem to no avail.

If it works fine with extensions off, then it is a software issue. You should probably reinstall your system software.

I have reinstalled system software and it did not work. Reinstalled system 9.1 then updated to 9.2.2 between freezes.

If that's the case, then you are looking at either a processor or logic board problem, most likely the processor will need to be replaced.

Check Apple System Profiler and be sure your firmware is latest version ( Boot ROM: 3.27ƒ2).

My boot rom is 4.18f something. I am able to boot off a CD and it runs for as long a I want, as soon as I try to reinstall the software or restart and boot off of the harddrive it will freeze. Any other suggestions?

Have you recently installed RAM chip, top or bottom?

I'd try the ram as suggested, and then a new processor.

Thanks for the info. I bought this two years ago used started having problems about 8 months ago. Taking out a ram module did the trick. It has been running for hours now. Thanks again for all your help.
