I have a 500Mhz G3 powerbook that decided to stop charging batteries.
They charge fine in my external charger, so I know the batteries are
good. It also won't really run on a batteries for more than a few
minutes. I figured it might be a problem with the PMU.

A few days later I started having problems with my screen. It seems that
the color green likes to go out over the whole screen. I can temporarily
get it to come back my knocking it a bit on the right hand site of the
powerbook, next to the trackpad.

Any thoughts on what these problems might be caused by or if they may
related?

The problems are most likely unrelated. For the batteries, you need to replace your Power / Charger board. For the display, the issue is most likely the display itself, and that would need replacement. I'd replace the Power / Charger board first though, and see if that alleviates the problem.
