Post subject:  Can't ID overheating- any solutions?

A bit of help please?
I've replaced nearly everything in this machine- back to apple 7 times. It finally dawned on me that the fan wasn't working. Replaced it from PBMedic and still no go. Fan still willnot turn on *ever*.
So my question is. . . How does the fan know when to turn on? Is there a sensor? A thermocouple? Where might it be? Any idea what it might look like? How does this machine know when to start the fan? When I was using it everyday all day I had a shareware way of displaying the temp of the chip. The hotest it ever registered was 145 (+-) degrees and still *no fan*. I'd really like to use this machine for at least a while problem free so if you have any, and I mean any better idea of what's going on I's appreciate hearing about it.
TIA
Mark
